Kate Middleton – Will her Wedding Gown be a McQueen??

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Will it be a McQueen for the princess? As Sarah Burton — who took over as creative director of Alexander McQueen following the designer’s death last year — sent out a collection in Paris on Tuesday that pointed to “The Ice Queen and her court” as the show’s theme, rumors are running rampant that she’s designing a gown for a real (and certainly warmer) princess-to-be. The U.K.’s Sunday Times splashed “Revealed: McQueen designer to make royal wedding dress” across its front page this weekend, but the British house denies the commission for Kate Middleton. A representative for McQueen says, “I can confirm that Alexander McQueen are not making Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.” But with a fall/winter 2011 collection that culminated in not one, but four frothy white gowns fit for a princess, Burton certainly proved she was up for the task. Suggestions for the designer of the dress that Middleton, 29, will wear at her wedding to Prince William on April 29 have ranged from British designers Bruce Oldfield to Philippa Lepley. The palace has consistently said Middleton wants to keep the designer a secret until the big day, though, and a palace spokesman wouldn’t comment Sunday saying this was simply the latest “speculation.” Still, fashionistas are holding out hope that the McQueen rumor will turn out to be true. Kate Winslet’s New Hair Do

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

A new role, a new city — and new hair! Kate Winslet shows off an extreme do — trading her long blond locks for cropped, platinum hair — in the April issue of British Vogue. In a revealing interview with Jo Ellison, the actress opens up about her recent divorce from husband Sam Mendes, and talks about the latest chapter in her life, which includes a temporary move to Paris to shoot Roman Polanski’s God of Carnage. And she also touches on her famous figure, which always has everyone talking. “I was a lot more voluptuous when I was younger,” she says. “I felt I had to defend my body, and took a very public stand, which I still absolutely believe in. But I’ve stopped talking about it now. And, at a certain point, it does become hypocritical.” Now, at 35, the actress is into Pilates and running, “not very well, I might add,” but mainly keeps busy by raising her children, 10-year-old Mia and 7-year-old Joe. However, that doesn’t mean the mom can’t have some fun! In the accompanying photos, shot by Mario Testino, Winslet works that hair — and looks divine. “I’m embarking on a new chapter in my adult life,” she shares. “And I’m single. And it doesn’t scare me at all.” The April issue of British Vogue is on newsstands now. Tell us: What do you think of Winslet’s look? Kate Hogan

Kate’s Wedding Wardrobe

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

The pomp and circumstance prep is well underway!

Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding is in less than eight weeks — and it seems that half of London is hard at work preparing for the big day.

With the dress currently being handcrafted in two secret locations (including a private suite within Clarence House), and the tiara waiting patiently in a Mayfair-based vault, everything is going according to meticulous plan.

I took a tour of Westminster Abbey this week, and the place was buzzing! No detail there is going ignored.

Every inch of the royal peculiar is being buffed to camera-ready perfection, with the High Altar cloth already away for refurbishment (no small feat — it’s over 15 meters long!).

And a source tells me that Kate, 29, and William, 28, have finally decided on the hymn selections — which mean that the young choir can now begin secret, after-dark rehearsals.

Across town, in London’s Chelsea neighborhood, the newly blacked-out windows of a private street-level office say it all. A royal courtier informs me that this is where the bouquet and floral arrangements are being crafted.

Three companies, including royal florist Simon J. Lycett Ltd., are thought to be responsible for the wedding day blooms. The theme? English country garden, of course.

And Kate doesn’t just have the wedding to worry about: there’s also an entire royal wardrobe to prepare.

Though she has no stylist, I’ve learned that princess-to-be has enlisted the help of friend, and owner of Moda Rosa, Rosie Wild, to select outfits for future engagements.

“This is Kate’s favorite shop,” says a source of the Arlesford-based boutique. “Many of those fabulous Temperly, Jenny Packham and Issa dresses were all bought here. It’s Kate’s secret fashion spot.

“Rosie is helping pull together a whole new wardrobe for the honeymoon and [royal visit to] Canada. Kate will make the final decision on everything.”

Nevertheless, Kate seems to be taking it all in her stride. As a palace source recently put it to me: “One billion people may be watching on April 29, but Kate’s focus will be on just one of them. William.”
